5 hair care tricks that can turn you into a real-life Rapunzel

Growing your hair long and healthy is no easy feat. It obviously does not happen overnight. However, you’ll be happy to know that a little switch in your hair care routine can make all the difference in helping you achieve the mane of your dreams.

Long hair does not happen by chance, it takes a lot of time and care. To begin with, here are some tricks that you need to master if you want long, luscious locks...

Do not shampoo your hair every day

What most women usually do is shampoo often and skip conditioner. In fact, it’s actually shampoo that you should be skipping more often. Shampooing every day strips your hair of the natural oils that are necessary for long, luscious mane. Shampoos help you get rid of grime and product build up on the scalp, whereas, conditioners leave your hair softer and moisturised. Over-washing your hair is the worst thing you can do, especially if you want to grow it long.

Go for regular trims

This may sound counterintuitive but in order to grow your hair, it’s important that you go for regular trims. Untrimmed hair calls for severe hair damage. All your frayed ends will start splitting higher and higher, thereby causing breakage. While you don’t need to go too short, you simply need to ask your stylist to take an eighth of an inch off of your hair every 10-12 weeks to avoid extreme split ends.

Load up on conditioner

From heat and pollution to frequent use of styling tools and colouring, our hair goes through so much every single day. And shampooing alone does not help to bring it back to life. Therefore, it’s important that each time you shampoo your hair, you must follow it up with conditioner. The harsh environmental factors and our grooming habits cause strands to get thinner at the bottom which leads to more breakage and shorter strands. Conditioners not only help replace the lipids and proteins inside the hair shaft but also seal the outer cuticle.

End your rinse with cold water

While you can wash your hair with lukewarm water, it’s important that you end it with a cold water rinse. What cold water does is shuts the cuticles and pores in the scalp and at the same time adds luster and shine to your hair. Warm water makes your hair frizzy, whereas, cold water tends to flatten your hair. This extra step helps both when growing your hair longer and maintaining the health of your tresses.

Brush your hair very gently

Brushing vigorously can cause severe breakage and prevent your hair from ever looking long. Wet hair is in its most vulnerable state and susceptible to breakage. Therefore, be very careful and gentle while brushing wet hair. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle wet hair, start from the bottom and slowly work your way upwards. Because brushing from the scalp down just pushes small tangles into one large knot, thereby causing you to lose a lot of hair.
